Hobby Master Lights Some Fires with the F/A-22 Air Dominance Fighter
Talk about making news. According to HobbyMasterCollector.com, a fan-based web site that offers inside information concerning Hobby Master-related product, the manufacturer intends to produce a 1:72 scale replica of the USAF F-22 Air Dominance fighter (HA2801). What makes this announcement so spectacular is the fact that rival modelmaker Century Wings was purportedly planning on producing a similar 1:72 scaled F-22, even showing an engineering prototype at the February Nuremberg Toy Fair. Moreover, Century Wings uses Hobby Master's production facilities to build their own aircraft replicas, calling into question their relationship going forward. The North American distributor has indicated that the retail price for the F-22 will be $69.99, with a pre-order price of $64.99, and claims the plane is on track for a May 2010 release. We hope to find out if Century Wings will abandon its F-22 model now that Hobby Master intends to offer a similar product in the not-too-distant future...[posted 9/14/2009]
Hobby Master Fields More Phantoms
It's common knowledge that every aviation enthusiast simply loves the F-4 Phantom II. Forever linked to the US involvement in the Vietnam Conflict, there were, of course, other client nations that purchased the McDonnell F-4 Phantom to serve as their frontline fighter bomber.
That said, Hobby Master has three non-US Phantoms scheduled for a December ship, each based upon different models of the Phantom. First up is an all-new rendition of the C model (HA1913), which flew for the Spanish Air Force in the 1970s. Next up is a Republic of Korea Air Force D Model (HA1914), which helped to defend their air space in the late sixties. Finally there's a brand new E Model (HA1915), which was attached to Germany's world famous JG71 Richtofen squadron as part of the post war Luftwaffe.
Look for these and several other new aircraft introductions to surface in the December timeframe...[posted 8/16/2009]
Hobby Master Straps on the Skyraider
Call it the Spad, Sandy or Able Dog, the Douglas A-1 Skyraider has been one of the most heavily requested models sought after by aviation buffs. Looking to keep their constituency happy and beef up their stable of combat aircraft, Hobby Master today announced their intent to replicate the Skyraider in 1:72 scale. The first offering is based upon an H model that was dubbed "Mig Killer", which flew with VA-176, then embarked upon the USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during October 1966 (HA2901). Piloted by Lt. (JG) William "Tom" Patton, Patton downed a MiG-17 jet fighter during a RESCAP mission over North Vietnam on October 9th, 1966. No easy feat considering he was flying a prop-driven bird versus a "fast-moving" jet fighter....[posted 7/29/2009]
Hobby Master Wrestles with a 'Wild Boar'
Aviation enthusiasts have been waiting with baited breath for a number of new product announcements from Hobby Master and here's one they can really sink their teeth into. In an effort to bolster their line of 1:48 scale combat aircraft, the manufacturer intends to offer their first ever German Fw 190A-8 fighter (HA7401). Based on a mount flown by Oberstleutnant Walter Dahl who was assigned to Jagdgeschwader 300, their inaugural Focke Wulf bears the infamous 'Wild Sau' ('Wild Boar') insignia, indicating it was designed for bomber interception and, if necessary, ramming operations against incoming heavy bombers to break up their formations. Look for the first bird to cut a swath of destruction sometime in July....[posted 4/15/2009]
Hobby Master Initiates Its Rolling Thunder Campaign
For months, speculation has been running rampant concerning Hobby Master's next, newly-tooled aircraft. Earlier today, the cat was let-out-of-the-bag when we learned that they planned to offer a 1:72 scale rendition of the illustrious F-105 Thunderchief. Developed by Republic Aviation, the same makers of the Thunderbolt, Thunderstreak and Thunderjet combat aircraft, the Thunderchief was quite literally the workhorse of the USAF during the early portion of the Vietnam Conflict, capable of carrying twice the bombload of the F-100 Super Sabre. The first F-105D "Thud" (#HA2501) is now available for pre-order, and we believe this model could easily become their best-selling plane of 2009...[posted 3/12/2009]
Hobby Master Adds the Israeli Phantom II to Its Aerial Armada
When Hobby Master announced their intent to model the McDonnell F-4 Phantom II fighter-bomber in 2008, it was perhaps just a matter of time before they would get around to offering one of the most important export versions ever to see action. The Israeli Kurnass (F-4E) played a central role in the Yom Kippur War of 1973 and has seen extensive service in air-to-air and air-to-ground actions following the war. The Hobby Master version (HA1909) is expected sometime this spring and will likely become one of the most coveted F-4 Phantom IIs amongst aviation enthusiasts....[posted 1/23/2009]
Hobby Master Straps on the Peashooter
Its no secret that Hobby Master has garnered much of its success by offering aircraft replicas no other modelmaker would think of tackling. Case in point, the Boeing P-26 Peashooter. The "Peashooter", as it came to be known by its pilots, was the first all-metal production fighter aircraft and the first pursuit monoplane used by the United States Army Air Corps. The prototype first flew in 1932, and were used by the Air Corps as late as 1941 in the Philippines. Due to its size, Hobby Master has elected to replicate the aircraft in 1:48 scale, and will no doubt offer a myriad of paint schemes as production gears up. Look for the first pair of examples (HA7501 and HA7502) to take wing sometime this spring....[posted 1/21/2009]
