The M106 107mm mortar carrier has a 4.2 inch (107mm) M30 mortar mounted on a turntable in the rear of the vehicle, which fires through a large hatch in the roof. The baseplate for the mortar is mounted externally on the left side of the vehicle for use when firing the mortar dismounted.
This new 1:43 scale model is based on the ubiquitous M113 family of vehicles. They were fast, could ford water, and had enough armor to repel up to a .50-caliber ricochet. The M106 carried a 4.2-inch mortar with an effective range of 1.5 miles. The model comes complete with a detailed interior including the characteristic sandbag-covered floor to protect against land mines. Like the other vehicles in the "Unsung Heroes" line, this M106 has been 'muddied' to give it a more weathered appearance. Sold Out!
Historical Account: "Firefight" - This track was commanded by Sergeant Bill Baty and found itself in one hell of a firefight on November 12th, 1965, which saw the first use of M106s in combat in Vietnam.
