Designed as a stopgap measure until the M4 Sherman tank could come on line, the M3 General Grant medium tank saw action in the North African campaign with both US and British forces battling the Afrika Korps. The M3 tank was unusual because it mounted two large caliber weapons in the body of the vehicle.

As early as 1934/35, General Heinz Guderian envisioned two basic types of armor to act as the lead elements of the future German Panzer Divisions. The first vehicle was to be armed with an anti-tank gun and two machine guns while the second one was to be a support vehicle, armed with a larger caliber gun.

German Sd. Kfz. 124 Wespe 105mm Tank Destroyer - 20.Panzer Division, Eastern Front, 1943 German Sd. Kfz. 124 Wespe 105mm Tank Destroyer - 20.Panzer Division, Eastern Front, 1943 (1:43 Scale)

The Wespe was designed by Alkett early in 1942, and was chosen as the most practical self-propelled mount for the leFH18 cannon, using the PzKpfw II chassis instead of the PzKpfw III or PzKpfw IV. As an interim measure, the Wespe proved a great success and in February 1943, all further PzKpfw II chassis were ordered to be used for its production.

Soviet T-34/85 Medium Tank - "314", 55th Armored Brigade, Germany, 1945 Soviet T-34/85 Medium Tank - "314", 55th Armored Brigade, Germany, 1945 (1:43 Scale)

The first generation T-34 medium tank made its debut in combat during the summer of 1941, when the Wehrmacht launched its invasion of the Soviet Union. The T-34 easily outclassed the German PzKpfw III and IV models, thanks to its hard-hitting 76.2mm main gun, thick frontal armor, wide tracks, and overall superior mobility.

US M12 GMC 155mm Self-Propelled Artillery - "Adolphs Assassin", 991st Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Armored Division, Belgium, 1944 US M12 GMC 155mm Self-Propelled Artillery - "Adolph's Assassin", 991st Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Armored Division, Belgium, 1944 (1:43 Scale)

The M12 GMC was one of the first self-propelled weapons of WWII in the US arsenal. Essentially, the M12 mounted a WWI-era 155mm gun on an M3 tank chassis. The engine was moved forward to provide a working space at the rear of the hull. It was in this space that a WWI Model M1917 or M1918 155mm gun was mounted.
