The German 4th Mountain Division Enzian ("Gentian" - a type of flower) was established in October 1940. It took part in the 1941 Balkans Campaign and then joined Army Group South during Operation Barbarossa after it was already underway. In 1942, it participated in the failed attempt to seize the Caucasus under Army Group A. As German fortunes in the east waned the division was pushed back into the Kuban bridgehead, the Crimea, the western Ukraine, Hungary, and Slovakia, finally surrendering to the Soviets near Czech Olomouc when the war ended in May 1945.
This 4-piece figure set consists of four German mountaineers from the German 4.Gebirgs Division.
