Leo Models Diecast Military Aircraft

Headquartered in Asia, Leo Models came to life in 2002 (inside Metro Sales promotion, a company specialized in conception, study and production of promotional and collectible items) originally intended as technical design department. Following its owner idea to expand his area of competence to the static modeling market and with the aid of new expert cooperators in this field, the newborn division starts by developing two projects for publisher Fabbri, the Police Cars and the American Cars, both in 1:43 scale.

Virtute siderum tenus ("with valor to the stars") proclaims the Italian Air Force's coat of arms. Now, this series of models recalls the Aeronautica Militare's long history as it presents aircraft ranging from a World War I flying boat fighter to the most modern of stealthy jets. This range comes packaged in blister packing similar to most partworks lines.

Introduced to the world as "the missile with a man in it," the striking Lockheed F-104 Starfighter promised to be the ultimate interceptor. Small, light in weight and with stunning straight-line performance, the F-104 was never agile enough to become what its designers wanted. During the late 1960's a number of European countries examined ways to replace their existing fleet of combat aircraft using next-generation design techniques. The AMX International AMX is a ground-attack aircraft for battlefield interdiction, close air support and reconnaissance missions. It was built until 1999 by AMX International, an Italian-Brazilian joint venture.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin. The Fiat G-55 Centauro, arguably the best Italian production fighter of the Second World War, was designed around requirements issued by the Direzione Generale Costruzioni de Ministero in 1941, which intended to provide the Regia Aeronautica with a first line fighter equal to any being produced by the Allies. The first swept-wing airplane in the U.S. fighter inventory, the F-86 scored consistent victories over Russian-built MiG fighters during the Korean War, accounting for a final kill ratio of 10-to-1.

The Macchi M.5 was an Italian single-seat fighter flying boat designed and built by Nieuport-Macchi at Varese. It was extremely manoeuvrable and agile and matched the land-based aircraft it had to fight. The Republic F-84F Thunderstreak was an American-built swept-wing turbojet fighter-bomber. While an evolutionary development of the straight-wing F-84 Thunderjet, the F-84F was a new design. The RF-84F Thunderflash was a photo reconnaissance version. The S-61R served in the United States Air Force as the CH-3C/E Sea King and the HH-3E Jolly Green Giant, and with the United States Coast Guard as the HH-3F "Pelican". The Piaggio P.108 Bombardiere was an Italian four-engine heavy bomber that saw service with Italy during World War II. The prototype first flew in 1939 and it entered service in 1941. The Fiat BR.20 Cicogna (Italian: "stork") was a twin-engined bomber of the Italian Regia Aeronautica which saw service in the Spanish Civil War, Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. Although the BR.20 was Italy's standard medium bomber in the mid-1930s and had proven effective in the Spanish Civil War, it was already obsolescent by the time Italy entered the war.

The MC.205 Veltro ("Greyhound") is considered the best Italian fighter of World War II. It was said that in the hands of a good pilot, it could defeat any allied plane. When the prototype of the Veltro was built, there were two other planes competing for the same contract: the Fiat G. 55 Centauro and the Reggiane Re 2005 Sagittario. No other aircraft of WWII could fly as high, go as far, or fight as hard as the famed Mustang. Piloted by a record 281 Aces, this agile and ferocious dogfighter tallied more kills than any other Allied airplane. As the bombers of the Eighth Air Force fought their way deep into Hitler's Germany, it was the Mustang that cleared the skies of Luftwaffe fighters.

The Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero (Italian for "Sparrowhawk") was a three-engined Italian medium bomber with a wood-and-metal structure.

The Fiat G.50 "Freccia" (Arrow), first flown in 1937, was the first Italian all metal, single seat, mono-wing airplane. Powered by the Fiat A.74 R.C.38 it proved to be fast and maneuverable, seeing success in the Spanish Civil War, though considered outclassed, underpowered, and under armed by World War II. 784 were built, with limited use by Croatia and Finland. The Macchi C.202 Folgore (Italian "thunderbolt") was a World War II fighter aircraft built by Macchi Aeronautica and operated mainly by the Regia Aeronautica (Italian) Air Force). The Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario (English: Archer, Sagittarius) was an Italian monoplane fighter/fighter-bomber produced for the Regia Aeronautica during the later years of World War II.
