Dragon DRA60413 German Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. G Assault Gun - Oblt. Ernst von Bauer, 8.Panzer Kompanie, Eastern Front, Autumn 1944 [Black Knight] (1:72 Scale)
"We must do everything we can to promote anti-tank defense, and work just as hard to guarantee successful counter-attacks through the instrument of powerful tank forces of our own."
- Major-General Heinz Guderian, "Achtung Panzer!"
The German Sturmgeschutz (StuG) was one of the most successful armored fighting vehicles of the Second World War. It arose from an original concept of the pre-war panzer divisions, whereby a special vehicle for infantry support work was planned. During the war years, the Sturmgeschutz was rapidly developed and upgunned, and was used both in its original role as an assault gun and also as a tank destroyer.
Dragon Armor has already released two 1/72 scale models featuring Panther Ausf.G tanks from the very popular Black Knight comic series produced in Japan. A third subject has been added to the Black Knight collection, this time a StuG III. The model has been painted in an appropriate camouflage scheme just like one that appears in the comic books. This tank destroyer was actually Germanys most widely manufactured armored fighting vehicle of the war, with the StuG III Ausf.G featuring a powerful 7.5cm StuK 40 L/48 gun. A total of 7,720 vehicles were produced from December 1942 through till April 1945.
This 1:72 scale model represents a StuG III G belonging to the Black Knight commander fighting on the Eastern Front in the autumn of 1944. The tank destroyer carries the distinctive unit tactical markings of the combat-hardened Black Knight unit. Another special feature of this finely detailed miniature is the dioramic card background fitted inside the display box. The colored scenic backdrop was designed and illustrated by none other than the renowned comic artist Motofumi Kobayash.
