Description Extended Information

Dragon DRW50094 German Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 Fighter - Hauptmann Paul-Heinrich Dahne, II/Jagdgeschwader 1, Mecklenburg, February 1945 (1:72 Scale) "Guns before butter. Guns will make us powerful; butter will only make us fat."
- Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering, Head of the German Luftwaffe

Nicknamed the "Butcher Bird," the Fw 190 was Germany's best air-to-ground fighter. Faster and more agile than the British Spitfire, it dominated the skies over Europe as a fighter and was the Luftwaffe's most important ground-attack aircraft. Controlled by the skilled hands of aces like Oberleutnant Otto Kittel, the FW-190 gained the reputation of being one of the greatest fighters of all time. This fighter-bomber and anti-tank aircraft was almost impossible to defeat until the introduction of the long-range P-51 Mustang.

This particular 1:72 scale replica of a Focke-Wulf FW 190A-8 was flown by Hauptmann Paul-Heinrich Dahne, Gruppenkommandeur of II/JG 1, which was based at Mecklenburg, Germany during February 1945. Now in stock!

Historical Account: The Fw190 was a fighter that played a vital role as Germany desperately tried to stem the tide of the advancing Russian and Allied forces that were crushing it from two directions. Early in 1945 there was an influx of Fw190s at the Eastern Front tasked with slowing the inexorable Russian advance. One such fighter was the 'Black Double Chevron' Fw190A-8 flown by Hauptmann Paul-Heinrich Dahne, Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 1. Dahne was credited with over 100 wartime victories before being shot down himself on April 24th, 1945.
