- General Bernard Law Montgomery
Tilly (from "Utility") was the name given to a number of British vehicles produced during the Second World War from civilian car designs. As an expediency British car manufacturers adapted civilian saloon designs to be fitted with a simple rear loading area to give the Car, Light Utility.
Many designs were provided by the British car industry, among them the Austin 8HP Series AP, Austin 10HP Series G/YG, Morris 10HP series M, Standard 12HP Series UV, based on the Flying 14, and the Hillman 10HP, based on the Hillman Minx.
