Signature Models SIG18135 1938 Grand Mercedes 770K Cabriolet Ceremonial Parade Limousine - Black (1:18 Scale) "Everlasting peace will come to the world when the last man has slain the last but one."
- German Chancellor Adolf Hitler

In 1930, German car maker Mercedes decided to produce a limousine "fit for a king." Forever known as the 'Grand Mercedes', the 770K Mercedes Limousine was eventually pressed into service by noneother than Adolf Hitler, soon after he became Reich Chancellor of Germany in 1933. Its engineering and appointments were of a standard equal to none and even featured a handhold attached to the middle windshield so that dignitaries seated in the back of the vehicle could stand and wave to the crowd. The 8-cylinder engine could produce 150 horsepower, but was increased to 200 horsepower when the optional supercharger was engaged. In 1938, substantial improvements were made to the chassis and engine, which could now attain an impressive 230 horsepower.

The Grand Mercedes was used extensively by the Fuhrer whenever he attended special rallies, visited with the troops, or drove through the streets of Germany's cities. It was also used during Il Duce's reknowned trip to Munich in 1936 where he signed the Pact of Steel Treaty with Adolf Hitler.

Historical Account: "Axis of Blood and Steel" - The term "Axis Powers" was coined by Mussolini in November 1936 when he spoke of a Rome-Berlin axis in reference to the treaty of friendship signed between Italy and Germany on October 25th, 1936. His "Axis" with Germany was confirmed when he made another treaty with Germany in May 1939. Mussolini described the relationship with Germany as a "Pact of Steel", something he had earlier referred to as a "Pact of Blood".

Germany's influence on Italian policy increased, which alarmed many Italian citizens and proved unpopular.

King Victor Emanuel III was also wary of this new axis, favoring the more traditional allies of Britain and France. In 1938, Italian soldiers began marching using the German goose step, which Mussolini called the passo romano ("Roman step").

The passing of the Charter of Race in 1938 demonstrated the enormous influence of Hitler over Mussolini, who had always been more interested in cultural superiority rather than racial superiority. These anti-Semitic laws meant that Jews were fired from government jobs and barred from marrying Italian "Aryans." (courtesy: Wikipedia)

Did not like the Mercedes mounted on a plastic stand. Rather have it without the plastic stand.
